How About a
Prestige Napa Cab
for the Best Price Anywhere?!?!
This week's selection : Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville Napa Valley, 2011, a reserve Cab that sells for $80 at the winery.
Purlieu Cab is rich, full-bodied and packed with dark black fruit. Perfectly ripened flavors of black currants, blackberries, and black plum, with hints of graphite, dark cocoa, and well-integrated French Oak. 100% New French Oak for 20 months, bottled unfiltered & unfined. New world style. Only 350 cases made.
This 100% Cabernet is sourced from some of the best vineyards in Napa, predominately Coombsville, as well as some fruit from the legendary Beckstoffer Tokalon and Martinez Vineyard on Pritchard Hill.
Winemaker Julien Fayard and vineyard manager Steve Matthiasson work together to ensure that every cluster on every vine is treated as an individual and receives the precise amount of both nourishment and stress needed to produce perfectly balanced fruit.
Purlieu means “the edge of the forest” and this is a reference to Purlieu’s home base in Coombsville. Purlieu’s objective is always balance: healthy fruit at peak ripeness, with power and freshness.
Winemaker Julien Fayard crafted this Cabernet to perfection. Julien was assistant to director of winemaking at Lafite-Rothschild, and moved to Napa Valley in 2006. He's worked at Quintessa, then Atelier Melka, where, most recently, he worked as director of winemaking with Hundred Acre, Vineyard 29, Lail, Gemstone, etc.
