How About a
Single Vineyard Syrah
at over 1/3 off?!?!?
This week's selection : Craggy Range Syrah, Hawkes Bay, Gimbet Gravels Vineyard Le Sol, 2009, a powerful, full bodied prestige Syrah that'll knock your socks off.
The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand approximately 150 years ago, which produces a wine with an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics and a lushness and denseness on the palate combined with fresh and fine natural acidity.
This is a wine that can be drunk now, or saved for up to a decade.
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Full bodied, creamy in texture and long on the finish, the 2009 Le Sol is the complete package. Blackberry fruit is accented by cracked pepper and vanilla, but closer examination reveals hints of black olive and coffee as well. The tannins are exquisitely silky on the finish, where the fruit comes to the fore."
93 points Wine Spectator: "This harmonious, smooth red delivers wonderful boysenberry, cranberry sauce, cocoa and candied violet notes that have wonderful traction, with velvety tannins and exotic spices leading to notes of incense that crescendo on the finish."
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Gimblett Gravels "Le Sol" Syrah gives ripe blackberry, blueberry and Chinese five spice aromas with pinches of black pepper and anise. Medium-full bodied, ripe and richly fruited on the palate, it's got a solid backbone of firm grainy tannins and crisp acid, finishing long."
91 points James Suckling "A wine with lovely balance and polished tannins. Dark fruits with subtle asphalt and grilled meat. Very convincing that Syrah is outstanding from here. Full and reserved with lots going on."
