92 Points Wine Spectator: "Cherry, black currant, underbrush and spice flavors are beautifully displayed on a smooth texture, supported by dense tannins. This seems set for a long life ahead, showing fine length, with a spicy, leafy finish."
Michel Gay and his son Sébastien run one of the highest regarded domaines in Chorey-les-Beaune. This estate is known for making very up-to-date wines that are well-concentrated and sturdy in structure. In some cases they really need a few years to open up, and they age very gracefully. The vineyards are farmed organically and hand harvested. Only 30% new oak is used. After 18 months the wines are bottled without filtration.
Aux Coucherias is a Premier Cru climat of the Beaune appellation in Burgundy. The Aux Coucherias sites are located at the heart of Beaune's belt of Premier Cru vineyards, between the town itself and the Mondes Rondes hillside. Dunn at Nearly 1/3 Off!!
How About a
Super Premium, Legendary Napa Cab
at nearly 1/3 Off??
This week's selection : Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 2002, the more approachable of Randy Dunn's two bottlings. Drinking beautifully right now, Dunn Napa is a perfect foil to roasted meats and stews, and is a great gift wine for your upcoming holiday gifts!
Dunn Vineyards produces two labels, Howell Mountain and Napa Valley. Both wines are one hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dunn Vineyards is located east of St. Helena in the town of Angwin on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. In 1972 Randy and Lori purchased the original vineyard property. The winery was established in 1979, with the first harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. In 1981, the first release offered consumers 660 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Howell Mountain vineyards. In 1982, Dunn also released their first Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dunn produces around 3500 cases of Howell Mountain and about 1500 cases of Napa Valley. The Howell Mountain wines consist of one hundred percent Howell Mountain fruit. The Napa Valley wines include up to 15% Napa Valley floor fruit with the remainder of the fruit coming from Howell Mountain. This floor fruit contributes to the wine's softer approach, even though the wines usually can be laid down for 15+ years.
Sweet black currant, floral, blueberry, and cassis characteristics emerge from the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. Medium body, it is a more elegant, restrained effort.
90 points, Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, graphite, mint and chocolate. Then surprisingly pliant and creamy for a Dunn cabernet, with accessible flavors of currant, licorice and milk chocolate. Finishes with rather suave tannins and some juicy acidity. Suppler than it appeared to be last spring when I tasted it from barrel, and considerably softer than the Howell Mountain bottling."

Loire Sauv Blanc Under $11
How About a Crisp Loire White
at Almost 30% Off!!
This week's selection : Buisse Touraine Blanc a crisp and bright Sauviognon Blanc that's perfect for aperitifs, fish, soups, salads and starters.
The vineyards that form the appellation of Touraine center around the city of Tours and border the Loire River, stretching from the Sologne region to the edge of Vienne and Anjou. With a south-southwest exposure, grapes stem from trellised Sauvignon Blanc vines that average 25 years of age and are set in clay, limestone soils 328 feet above sea level.
Pioneers in sustainable farming, the Chainier family were among the
first to employ green practices in the area. Minimal weeding of the roots and regular scrutiny of the vines keep treatments to a minimum. To control insects naturally and avoid extermination, pheromone is used to treat the vines. Pheromone eliminates breeding by causing a confusion which hinders the male insects from locating the females.
