I’m so excited - I leave for a wine trip to Argentina in a few days with one of my wine heroes - Fran Kysela. Fran is a Master Sommelier and owner of Kysela Père et Fils, importer of a lot of wines that we feature at Farmstead.

Here’s the latest addition to the Farmstead family
We finally got our clearance to start building out the shop last week, and the construction crew has started work on store number two!
There’s a nice trench in the front room, some rough framing installed in the upstairs room, and a lot of noisy hubbub.
I’ll start posting in-progress photos on this site.
Someone stole a $300 bottle of champagne from the store today. This is the second time we have suffered a loss of one of our most expensive champagnes.
I suppose I should be overjoyed that we don’t have to endure theft on a regular basis, but right now, I’m just disappointed.

Wow! I just found out that I was chosen “Entrepreneur of the Year” by the members of the Alameda Chamber of Commerce!
2007 has been quite a year for Farmstead: Best Wine Store awards from two publications, and now this.
We must be doing something right!
Well, it’s official. We’ve been working on plans for our second shop for a few months now, and have signed a lease! Farmstead Cheeses and Wines, Oakland will be located at 6218 La Salle Ave (the site of the old La Salle Cigar Store), in Montclair Village.

We seem to be on a roll lately. Alameda Magazine named Farmstead Best Wine Retailer in their September issue, and said:

The editors of the East Bay Express have named Farmstead the Best Wine Store in the East Bay. This is our second award from the East Bay Express, as we were named Best Cheese Store in 2005.
Woot, woot, as the kids say.
