Farmstead Cheeses and Wines: Jeff’s Blog

An occasional blog from and about Farmstead Cheeses and Wines, Alameda and Montlcair California’s choice for fine wines and artisan cheeses. Peppered with comments, Jeff’s musings and articles in local publications, as well as photos from Jeff and Carol’s travels in search of the best food and wine, the Farmstead Blog is a fun way to keep in touch with the store.

Bucerchiale

When we were in Italy in ‘05, Carol and I visited Selvapiana, arguably the best producer in the Chianti Rufina region northeast of Florence.

Chianti Rufinas are a bit more fruit forward and ageable than other Chiantis, and the Selvapiana style is indefinitely more New World in style.

Here, Carol and owner Federico Giunti are standing in the famed, organic Bucerchiale vineyard. Their Bucerchiale bottling is a store and staff favorite.
