Farmstead Cheeses and Wines: Jeff’s Blog

An occasional blog from and about Farmstead Cheeses and Wines, Alameda and Montlcair California’s choice for fine wines and artisan cheeses. Peppered with comments, Jeff’s musings and articles in local publications, as well as photos from Jeff and Carol’s travels in search of the best food and wine, the Farmstead Blog is a fun way to keep in touch with the store.

St John

P1000405Last Summer, we scored a reservation at the famed St John Gastro-pub in London. St. John is famous for it’s old time British fare, what they call nose to tail eating.

P1000407According to its chef-owner Fergus Henderson, St, John is where “chefs, foodies, food writers and cooks on sabbatical, traveling perhaps through the great multi-starred restaurants of London, France and Spain often stop there for a taste of the real.”

98They serve traditional, local, British fare like Marrow Bone Salad, Fennel & Berkswell, Ox Tongue & Chicory, Braised Beef Kidney, Grey Partridge & Lentils, Pheasant & Trotter Pie

P1000392 We weren’t feeling too adventurous that day, but I did have a lovely plate of Marrow Bones.
