Stealing and Returning: The joys of owning a wine shop

Someone stole a $300 bottle of champagne from the store today. This is the second time we have suffered a loss of one of our most expensive champagnes.

I suppose I should be overjoyed that we don’t have to endure theft on a regular basis, but right now, I’m just disappointed.

In not related news, someone returned a half-drunk bottle of wine the other day because ‘they didn’t like it‘ and said that they were acting upon our recommendation.

Now, we’ll gladly accept the return of any defective product, but we don’t allow returns on something merely becauseĀ  a customer didn’t like it.

Why is it that one would never return, let’s say, a half eaten banana or an opened bottle of soda to a grocery store because they didn’t like it, but they feel that it’s okay to return a bottle of wine?
