About Byron Kosuge Owner and winemaker Byron Kosuge was born and raised in the Central Valley town of Davis, California. The first fifteen years of his winemaking career were spent making wine at Saintsbury in Carneros, where the Pinot “bug“ first bit him.
After leaving Saintsbury in 2001, Byron has continued to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for Miura in California (where he is still consulting) and, most recently, for Kingston Family Vineyards in Casablanca, Chile, and his own label, B. Kosuge Wines, which focuses on Pinot Noir and Syrah from Carneros, Mendocino, and the Sonoma Coast.
About Wood Tavern Wood Tavern opened a year ago to universal raves (Michael Bauer of the SF Chronicle called it “a destination for discriminating diners everywhere.”). It is owned and operated by Rebekah and Rich Wood, who built their early success in the San Francisco restaurant scene in pivotal roles at Rubicon, Farallon, Harry Denton’s & Scala’s Bistro. After 6 years of owning the successful & charming Russian Hill restaurant, Frascati, Rich and Rebekah decided to open a new restaurant in a neighborhood closer to their home in Oakland. After months of searching they found the perfect spot on College Ave. at the edge of Oakland’s Rockridge district. Wood Tavern embodies the essence of their personalities and provides guests with a sense of comfort unique to the area. The Wood Tavern was named an SF Chronicle Top 100 restaurant in 2008, and is one on the toughest reservations in town. This is the third Farmstead/Wood Tavern collaborative wine dinner.
