Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon
Considered one of the finest winemakers in France, Dominique Lafon produces coveted white Burgundies from some of the greatest vineyards in the Cote de Beaune. He is a fourth generation winemaker, and has managed his family's estate, Domaine des Comtes Lafon, in Meursault since 1987. During that time he has established an international reputation for wines of richness, precision and balance that are also true to their terroirs.
Always hungry for new challenges, Lafon purchased 14 hectares of vines in the Maconnais in 1999. He believes strongly in the potential of the region, but feels that too few vignerons have attempted to realize that potential. Thus, as he does in Meursault, Lafon utilizes biodynamic viticulture, intense soil rejuvenation, tight yield control, and rigorous green harvesting to produce some of the most complex, vibrant and impressive wines the region has ever seen. 100% Chardonnay, 100% limited.

Mâcon Milly-Lamartine: This is the village wine where the winery is located. Made up of mostly hillside grapes with some lower elevation fruit. Good minerality and length that's rounded out by nice apple & pear fruit. Enjoyable young and ages well for 2-4 years. $30
Mâcon Milly-Lamartine, Clos du Four: From the same vineyard as the Mâcon Milly-Lamartine, but only the old vines in the heart of the vineyard, having best exposure, go into this cuvée. Very mineral with great length, this wine's richness comes out only after at least a year in bottle. The fruit is classic Mâcon styled with tinges of citrus that give a hint of it's potential to age at least 5-7 years. $43
Mâcon Uchizy, Les Maranches: From the new vineyards in Uchizy in the northern Macon region. Richer soils and better exposure make for earlier ripening here than in the south in Milly. The fruit is more baked apple but still retains a good acid core. Very poised wine that can compete with wines twice its price. $34
Mâcon-Chardonnay, Clos de la Crochette: This is considered to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, chardonnay growing site in the world. Located in the village where the Cluny monks first planted the varietal, this is the finest vineyard in the area. The perfect mix of clay and limestone combined with a medium steep slope and good eastern exposure, you can really feel the history here as you walk the vineyard. The resulting wine is very poised and possesses that perfect balance of crisp acidity, good mineral backbone and a very intense, long mouth-feel. The fruit shows both ripe apples and citrus with just a little spice. $37
Macon-Bussieres: Parcel composed of clay, chalk, and rocks with a thin soil depth located in the town of Bussiere. The vines average 20 years of age, and farmed with organic and biodynamic methods. A lovely, plump wine that mellows with age. $39
Viré-Clessé: Viré-Clessé is a relatively new appellation to Burgundy, created in 1999. This new AOC serves as both a combination and elevation of the Mâcon-Villages level AOCs of Mâcon-Viré and Mâcon-Clessé in recognition of the superior quality potential emanating from the zone. $42
